Bauhaus pilgrimage - Part 3

When I walk in the Bauhaus school, I feel that I have walked or seen once in some places. There is something very similar to the school buildings of elementary and junior high schools where I sent my childhood. After the war, many public buildings newly created on the land that became burnt fields in the war were modeled on modern architecture, which was the world trend at the time. This building designed by Gropius would have had a great influence not only in Japan, but also in the rest of the world, including Le Corbusier's architecture. Bauhaus has created designs that have had a major impact not only on architecture, but also on furniture and metal crafts.

Bauhaus Pilgrimage - Part 2

The inside of the Bauhaus school building was open to visitors, with the exception of some areas. When I entered a classroom, I felt nostalgic, although I wasn't learning there. Gropius invited leading artists of the time for students studying at Bauhaus. Johannes Itten, who had experience as an elementary school teacher before coming to the Bauhaus, established a Bauhaus basic curriculum. Gropius intends that the ultimate goal of all art forms is architecture, and that basic education paintings and sculptures will eventually lead to architecture. However, Itten decided to leave Bauhaus in 1923 in opposition to Gropius because his educa...

Bauhaus Pilgrimage - Part 1

When I walked from Dessau station for a while, I saw Bauhaus building in the distance. Bauhaus was founded in 1919 in Weimar. Originally, the art school and craft school that existed in this area became one, and the architect Walter Gropius was chosen as the first principal. Gropius named it Bauhaus (architectural house) in a modern way, inspired by the word “Bauhutte” (a hut of architecture), a union of medieval architects. Until then, the Bauhaus buildin...

From Leipzig to Dessau

When I was walking in the city of Leipzig, it was raining, but when it came home it rained and the blue sky spread. On this day, I went from Leipzig to Dessau. Of course, to go to Bauhaus. Since there was a little time before the train departed, I decided to have a simple lunch at a store in my home. I ate it several times in Berlin, but here again it is curry bust. I got on the train, but it doesn't take off easily at the departure time. There will be an announcement after a while, and the departure time will be delayed due to the connection.

Walking around Leipzig

Originally planned to visit Mendelssohn's house and Cafe Baum, the oldest coffee house in Germany where Goethe also passed, but unfortunately abandoned because of the delayed train . Bach's name was forgotten after his death, but the discovery was said to be Felix Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn played the Matthew Passion in 1829, which triggered Bach's resurrection. Mendelssohn became the conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in 1835 and took his breath in the land of Leipzig at the age of 38 in 1847. The house where he lived remains in Leipzig.

Bach-Museum Leipzig

The Bach Museum is directly opposite Thomas Church. This building was the residence of the Bose family who was doing business dealing with precious metals. The Bose family also interacted with Bach, and Bach himself lived in the Cantor dormitory of the nearby Thomas Church. In the museum, not only Bach but also valuable items related to the family are displayed. According to the museum, there were 53 musicians in the Bach family, including Johann Sebastian Bach. There are also Bach's hand-written music scores, which are valuable items not only for Bach fans but also for classical music fans. An organ that Bach act...

Bach & Thomaskirche

The purpose of visiting Leipzig was to visit the Thomas Church. Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach in 1865 and was active mainly in Weimar. In 1723, he was adopted as the Cantor of the Thomas Church. Bach was the fifth candidate when he was hired, and the other four people declined or were inconvenienced. But now, the names of the other four musicians are almost unknown. Speaking of Thomas Church in Leipzig, it is supposed that Bach was active. In front of the church, a Bach statue with a solemn expression with a musical score is standing upright. The impression inside the church was not so big and...
